A Mother's Heart Unveiled
Finding Hope Beyond Grief

This poem is dedicated to all the bereaved parents whose hearts ache with mine; may our shared pain be comforted by the memory of our precious children. From my heart to yours.
In the Darkness I’m Found
That day little that I knew, something was brewing that would change my life as I knew it.
That it would demolish me, like a bulldozer to a building, bringing its existence down to pieces and dust. That it would take my heart and break it completely apart. Like a mirror shattered into pieces.
I was left a broken shell of a human being – a mother of a son who no longer was there.
The darkness became my refuge. To not be seen. A hiding place from the emptiness I felt. These feelings would come like a violent storm, ready to rip you to pieces, leaving devastation in its wake. Like waves crashing on land knocking me down over and over again.
And with each wave I get back up, brush myself clean and stand again. Ready for the next one, but with each occurrence my strength is slowly building. Like a butterfly in its cocoon, evolving from something so minuscule, out of its darkness into something so beautiful, emerging with a new body and mission.
No longer crawling but with power, and the ability to fly. But darkness cannot hold us forever. For we are given power over all, power over darkness, for darkness cannot overshadow light.
It is that light in us that resurfaces to transform our being into the beautiful creatures that we were created to be. In his image we are made new.
We can speak life and overcome spiritual death. I find myself walking toward the light, leaving the darkness behind me, knowing that in that place I found myself, knowing that it is not for me.
For I am light, I am loved. I am found.
